Lost Boys

At the end of the year in northern Afghanistan, Jesus followers came to our province to show the JESUS Film to boys and girls in our community. Many of the children were joining the jihad movement, and their families encouraged it because they believed it pleased Allah. The Jesus followers knew they had an opportunity to give these boys and girls a new and different future: from terrorists to believers in Jesus Christ. If the children could hear the story of God’s great love for them, they might make a different choice.

So, the Jesus followers made a big meal for the children. They also had gifts for each of them: shoes, clothes and warm jackets for the winter. It was a beautiful night. Many children showed up to see the JESUS Film. Parents also came to see it as well. More than 700 boys and girls gathered on this special night. The children watched in complete silence as the story of Jesus came to life, right in front of their eyes, for the first time ever.

Immediately after the movie ended, four boys stood up and said, “Save us! We are big sinners.” The Jesus followers asked, “Why do you say you’re sinners?” The boys responded, “Our tribe is sending children to the Mujaheddin to become suicide attackers. Before watching the JESUS Film, we were proud to be chosen from our tribe to be the next suicide attacker. But we realize this is very wrong. The true God never hurts people. And we believe Jesus is the true God, so we don’t want to hurt people either. We thought killing people would get us into heaven, but the JESUS Film showed us the way to heaven is by asking Jesus into our hearts.”

As their eyes filled with tears, the boys continued, “Many of us have lost our siblings, cousins, and friends to jihad. Now, Jesus has rescued us from this life, and we want to rescue the 400 boys who have already been sent to the terrorist training camps.” RUN teams soon rescued 407 would-be suicide attackers and moved them to safe houses, where they now live as Jesus followers.

Please pray for their safety of these boys, as the Mujaheddin are still searching for them.
